国立鉄道博物館募金イベント、ロンドン日本料理店「祭」

　２月に、ロンドン、セント・ジェームズにある日本料理店「祭」で行われた、国立鉄道博物館のための募金イベントに参加しました。

In February I attended a fundraiser for the National Railway Museum at the famous Matsuri Japanese restaurant in London’s St James. 

　このレストランで最近行われたお祭りは、青森の「ねぶた祭り」でした。この恐い顔のお面が、入り口で待っています。

One of their recent celebrations was of the "Aomori Nebuta Festival” – this astonishing mask greets you on your visit.

　チャリティ・オークションとして、素晴らしい商品が出品されました。それは、最近きれいにお化粧なおしをした「フライング・スコッツマン」の機関手室に乗ることでした。

A charity auction was run and one of the most spectacular sales was a cab ride on the newly refurbished “Flying Scotsman”.

　日本料理が食べられ、世界的に有名な機関車を称えるばかりでなく、その機関手室に乗ることもできるなんて（一生に一度の大イベント！）、最高の募金イベントでした。

An excellent way to raise funds for the museum, have the best Japanese food in London,  celebrate one of the world’s most famous engines and have a ride of a lifetime.

英国鉄道遺産の旅６：フライング・スコッツマン

キングズ・クロス駅は、ロンドン＝ヨーク＝エジンバラ間の最も速い路線の始発駅です。『フライング・スコッツマン路線』としても知られた路線です。

Kings Cross is the London terminus of the fastest route between London, York and Edinburgh. It is known as “the route of the Flying Scotsman”

時速１００マイル（１６０ｋｍ）を超えるスピードで走る『フライング・スコッツマン』は、世界一有名な蒸気機関車と言っても過言ではないでしょう。様々な映画やテレビ番組にも登場しています。

The Flying Scotsman steam engine is arguably the most famous engine in the world owing to its heritage of being the first engine above 100mph. It boasts numerous appearances in movies and TV shows.

『フライング・スコッツマン』は、ロンドン・オリンピックに向けて、今、黒のお仕着せに着替え中です。今年は、『英国鉄道遺産の旅』ツアーで訪れる北ヨークシャー荒野鉄道路線を、オリンピックの聖火を乗せて走る予定です。

It’s currently under repair taking on a new Black livery – ready for this year’s London Olympics. This year it is planned to be used to convey the Olympic Torch along our North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
